Esme Montgomery
Piano, Voice
Singer, songwriter, and performer Esme Montgomery is an experienced musician who has performed with members of WEEN, The Jazz Mandolin Project, Zappa tribute band Project/Object, in a Talking Heads tribute, and as an independent artist.
Esme brings the perspective of a rock singer to her vocal pedagogy, while also placing emphasis on technique. As a piano teacher, Esme is guided by a passion for theory and artistry, and performs classical, contemporary, and original compositions. In all lessons and musical partnerships, she prides herself on prioritizing the formation of caring attuned relationships to develop a range of interests.
Esme grew up in a musical home, began studying piano at age nine, and attended NYC’s LaGuardia High School as a music major. After high school, Esme started writing and performing her own music, studying education, and working as an assistant teacher. She began studying Vocal Technique with Cari Cole while working on a studio recording. In the 90s she signed to indie label Infidel Records.
Esme is currently a Visiting Artist for Lafayette College’s Freshman Writing Seminar, “The Songwriter’s Voice,” with Dr. Jorge Torres and will have a One Act Musical Short produced as part of the NY Theater Fest in January 2025.
Esme started teaching at Church Street School in September of 2024.
