Piruz Partow has been a lover, performer, supporter, teacher, and administrator of music, music education, and the performing arts. For over two decades, Piruz has dedicated his life to foster connections through the creative process in strengthening communities by empowering individuals of all ages, interests, levels and means through music and the arts.

Originally from Philadelphia, Piruz’s parents immigrated from Iran and bestowed on him a passion for the arts and music. Piruz began studying violin at the age of three with renowned Romanian violinist Dolly Koritzer at the Haverford School where he also studied with Philadelphia Orchestra Organist Michael Stairs. Piruz studied Music Theory at Hobart College with Pultizer Prize winning composer Nicholas V. D’Angelo who also taught Piruz bass as well. Piruz went on to study classical bass at Ithaca College of Music with Henry Neubert and obtained his Masters in Music from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia. In Philadelphia, Piruz was mentored by many local legends including: Neil Courtney (Philadelphia Orchestra), Mike Boone, Tyrone Brown, Craig Thomas, Jimmy Amadie, Charles Fambrough, Heather Miller amongst many others.

Europe was Piruz’ next destination where he resided in Brussels and played with many jazz, rock, pop and classical ensembles including being hired as the principal bassist for the Bruscella Symphony Orchestra.

Since 2002, Piruz has resided in NYC, now in Sunset Park. For 18 years, Piruz was a member of the Brooklyn Music School team, first as a teaching artist, then Head of the String Department, then Music and Program Director and for eight years as the Executive Director. Piruz helped lead a revival of this 112 year old organization bringing it from the brink of closure to becoming a performing arts education powerhouse in Downtown Brooklyn and beyond with a $15 million facility expansion on the horizon. It is at BMS where Piruz developed a passion for fundraising, financial management, and real estate.

For almost 10 years, Piruz had been a staple as a bassist on the Gypsy Jazz scene playing and recording with many artists from Europe and beyond including: Titi Bamberger, Stephane Wrembel, Robin Nolan, Lolo Meir, Robin Katz, Dennis Chang, and Jason Anick.

Now, during his free time, Piruz plays the Persian Tar and composes music for Persian Bluegrass Band: Vatan. He also plays soccer, tennis and golf when his back cooperates and loves to attend concerts and visit art galleries whenever possible.
