One Week Adventures in Art | 6 – 12 years

June 22nd, 2019 – August 14th, 2020 (One Week Sessions)

This summer join Church Street School art teachers Ruby McCollister and Natalie Casagran Lopez in exploring different approaches to art, while using the city as an exciting source of inspiration. These week-long adventures include filmmaking, performance, painting, story telling, and much more! Students will also have the opportunity to take field trips and have supplementary musical experiences with our instrumental faculty.

June 22nd-26th – Miniature Workshop

Students will collaborate on a miniature village and learn about the importance of detail and telling a visual story while working in an extra small scale.

June 29th-July 3rd – Painting Exploration

This week-long painting class explores the versatility and dynamic aspects of painting while students answer questions like, “Can you use your own body as a paintbrush?”and “How is blue paint even made!?”

July 6th-10th – Poetry Club

In this workshop students will write and and do visual art exercises meant to tingle senses, open minds, and spark fun! All poetic thoughts are welcome, and students will share their work in a group reading.

July 13th-17th –CSSMA Variety Show

During this week, students will have the opportunity to finesse their unique talents while also learning how to create props, backdrops, learn new performance techniques and more for the CSSMA Variety Show!

July 20th-24th – Fairy Tale Factory

Fairy tales are cultural stories and outlets for the collective imagination. In this workshop, students will learn about different fairy tales, build mystical relics, write stories, and more! How big can a painting be? What is paint made out of? Can you use your own body as a paint brush? Do you have to use only paint to make a painting? This week-long painting class explores the versatility and dynamic aspects of painting in all ways!

July 27th-31st – Drawing World

Drawing is an endless medium, with techniques and materials that are so varied and so useful for a young artist. Students will focus their projects around the style and technique that best suits their interests.

Aug 3rd-7th – Lights, Camera, Action!

All students will be stars in this week-long film intensive during which we will cover different cinematic methods, genres, and behind-the-camera roles.

Aug 10th-14th – Paper & Book Arts

Students will learn paper’s incredibly vast possibilities as an art material. The week will include paper pulp sculpture, bookbinding, marbling, and more!
