One Week Adventures in Art — 6 to 12 years (in-person)

June 21, 2020 – August 13, 2020 (eight weeks)

Mon. – Fri. 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

This summer, join Church Street School art teachers Bianca Dominguez and Wendy Cohen, for an exploration of different approaches to art. Students will build, paint, write, play games, and more. Art lessons will be supplemented by movement, theatre, field trips, and music workshops, leaving no creative possibility unexplored!

Weekly Themes:

June 21 – 25: Adventures in Painting

This week-long class explores the versatility and dynamic aspects of painting, considering size and format, materials and tools, history of painting, and so much more.

June 28 – July 2: Fashion Club

Ever dreamed of striking a pose on the catwalk in fashion that you designed? Learn the history of fashion, beautiful clothes, and design,  construct, and style them for our very own fashion show. 

July 5 – July 9: Mythology and Fantasy

A mixed media program including costume-making, story writing, fairy tales, film and more! Students will explore the mythology of the world and create work inspired by these myths.

July 12– July 16: Self Expression Through Mixed Media

Learn the art of self expression through listening to your inner voice. We will be inspired by art movements such as abstract expressionism, surrealism, and more, and experiment with dynamic art process such as collage, body painting, drawing, and watercolor painting.

July 19 – July 23: Reconnecting to Nature Through Art

Environmental art making is an exploration of honoring the earth through art making, meditations and raising awareness around indigenous practices. This is an opportunity to dive deeper into natural dying, creating sculptures with natural objects, creating natural paints, weaving with natural objects, and creating nature installations.

July  26 – July 30: The Power of Storytelling

Take a deep dive into creative writing and symbology to illustrate your own book through the cultivation of personal myths and narratives inspired by folklore of South American traditions. Students will be hands-on as they  explore book making, hand making paper, watercolor painting and drawing. 

August 2 – August 6: Radical Art Making

Art has the power to heal and make change within your community. Learn the power of radical art making through mural art, painting and mixed media processes. 

August 9 – August 13: Textile Arts

Students will spend the week learning through experimentation and play within the world of fiber arts. Join a hands-on exploration of textile processes such as felting, tie dying, weaving, printing, and much more!
