Kevin Bernstein is a Brooklyn based keyboardist who is gaining attention for his colorful playing and songwriting. Kevin, 23, has been recording and performing for a decade. He has recorded five albums as a sideman. Two of those albums were with the Rock/Jazz group XD 7. Kevin has performed in several cities across the country: Irving Plaza in NYC, Rockwood Music Hall in NYC, Dizzy’s in NYC, the San Jose Jazz Festival, the Burlington Jazz Festival, the Blue Whale in LA, The Lobero Theater in Santa Barbara, The Deerhead Inn in Pennsylvania, and The Jazz School in Berkeley to name a few.

Kevin was raised in Ventura, California where he started studying Classical piano at 8 years old with a local piano teacher. At around age 12, Kevin started exploring music from his parents and older brothers and begin teaching himself how to play Jazz. In high school he trekked to Los Angeles to study with Josh Nelson, Eric Reed (Wynton Marsalis), Adam Benjamin (Kneebody). He was also mentored by trumpeter Leslie Drayton (Earth, Wind, and Fire, Marvin Gaye). In high school Kevin played with Larry Grenadier, Jeff Ballard, Mark Turner, Shelia E, Doug Webb (Freddie Hubbard), Tony Dumas (Herbie Hancock), and Ric Fierabracci (Chick Corea).

In 2010, Kevin moved from Ventura to NYC to study Jazz at Manhattan School of Music. At MSM he studied with Pianists Mark Soskin (Sonny Rollins), Vijay Iyer and Drummer John Riley. Since college, Kevin has performed with Stanley Banks (George Benson), Roy Hargrove, Alice Tan Ridley, Donny McCaslin, Bobby Sanabria, and singers Natalie Cressman (Trey Anastasio), Jason Ewald, CJ Holland, Anais Aida, and Rachel Ann Weiss.

Kevin loves teaching and has been doing it for the past 5 years. He teaches in New York, but started in Ventura. He has taught students ages 11-56, in styles ranging from Jazz to Classical to Rock. Kevin has a personalized approach to lessons and uses his knowledge of technique, exercises and repertoire to guide his students.

Kevin graduated from MSM in 2014 and is currently living in Bushwick, part of Brooklyn. He works as a vocal accompanist, private teacher, and performs around New York City.
