Church Street School is at a momentous juncture. We are nearing the end of our lease and we need a permanent home. To guarantee the future of our school, we need funding immediately to make a down payment on a new space and sustain us while we are in transition.
A window of opportunity has opened, but we must act quickly to take advantage of it.
Earlier this year, NYC councilperson Margaret Chin pledged to provide discretionary capital funds toward the acquisition of our new home. Community Board 1 passed a resolution at their October meeting to recommend $4 million in NYC funding to acquire and renovate a new facility for the school. Before city funds will be awarded, the school must raise matching funds from the community and elsewhere. The school’s founder and executive director Lisa Ecklund-Flores has already begun securing pledges from donors.
We are thrilled at the tremendous vote of confidence from the city and others, but to take advantage of this opportunity, we need funding NOW to secure a down payment and support the school during its transition to a permanent home.
Michael Dorf and City Winery are generously sponsoring an Urgent Fundraiser for Church Street School on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 8:00 PM, with 100% of ticket sales going to fund Church Street School.
So please join us! Bring your friends and spread the word so we can bridge the gap between the present and the future of arts education downtown!
