One Week Adventures in Art | 6 – 12 years
June 29, 2020 – August 13, 2020 (eight weeks)
Mon. – Thurs. 10:00am – 12:30pm
This summer, join Church Street School art teacher Natalie Casagran Lopez and special guest instructors in exploring different approaches to art while working on unique, weekly at-home projects. Students will build, paint, write, play games, and more. Art lessons will be supplemented by movement, theatre, virtual field trips, and music workshops, leaving no creative possibility unexplored!
Weekly Themes:
June 29 – July 2: Miniature Workshop
Students will work on a miniature shoebox diorama and learn about the importance of detail and telling a visual story while working in an extra-small scale.
July 6 – July 9: Painting Exploration
This week-long painting class explores the versatility and dynamic aspects of painting while students answer questions like, “Can you use your own body as a paintbrush?”and “How is blue paint even made!?”
July 13 – July 16: Drawing Club
Drawing is an endless medium, with techniques and materials that are so varied and so useful for a young artist. Students will focus their projects around the style and technique that best suits their interests.
July 20 – July 23: Poetry Club
In this workshop students will write and and do visual art exercises meant to tingle senses, open minds, and spark fun! All poetic thoughts are welcome, and students will share their work in a group reading.
July 27 – July 30: Fairy Tale Factory
Fairy tales are cultural stories and outlets for the collective imagination. In this workshop, students will learn about different fairy tales, build mystical relics, write stories, and more!
Aug 3 – Aug 6: Drawing Club
Drawing is an endless medium, with techniques and materials that are so varied and so useful for a young artist. Students will focus their projects around the style and technique that best suits their interests.
Aug 10 – Aug 13: Paper and Book Arts Students will learn paper’s incredibly vast possibilities as an art material. The week will include paper pulp sculpture, bookbinding, marbling, and more!
